I love this song. Country Joe came to Poets in the Park in Loveland about ten years ago and sang it. Boy, he looked old. Why Country Joe was there, I don't know. The poet there was Dorianne Laux. When she read a poem about Janis Joplin, CJ looked sa…

interesting Morgan - 'war doesn't raise these tensions, it spotlights them' - allows us to see them since we so often keep them under the rug, separated by other things - war does not allow us to hide these tensions...

This reminds me of the draft comments in one of the other documents. Americans humilitated themselves by sending the poor, young, and minorities to do the jobs of war, while the rich, old, and powerful enjoyed the benefits. The voice of the American…

Nixon says "Let us be united for Peace" by defeating the North Vietnamese. To do otherwise would be unAmerican, which he equates with humiliation. He diminishes the anti-war movement by suggesting that it is a "fashion," a fad.

Does the stone need a label? I just interpreted it as a cliff, and that foreign policy will drag Johnson's domestic policy, esp. civil rights, over the cliff to its death.

Once Upon a Time, Bill Did a Demo...

This morning, Bill Wright presented us with a question concerning creative writing: How do students recapture the magic of storytelling in order to produce writing that is publishable?

Bill arrived at his question after dealing with years of student writing that seemed to be full of descriptions and flowery language, but that lacked a basic element of all good writing: a good story. Also, students seemed to focusing on only one genre (Fantasy!! AHHH!!) and were not open to constructive criticis… Continue

Great Demo!!
I am far more concrete I guess. I like the first activity because I knew exactly what was expected. Now, the on-line activity WAS well structured but I wandered far afield and didn't answer the questions as well as I should have. My only hope is that it will provide you with some usable data.

Ning Experience:
Benefits - I think that giving students a chance to interact with technology is always successful and also allows for choice in a variety of primary documents
Drawbacks - Not a lot of interactive comments, as most people chose to comment based only on what they thought. Threaded discussion would help address this issue.
