I had different fonts and things indented, but they were lost in the cut and paste from Word. I hope I am back from the doctor in time for Daily Log.

Good for you, Pam. The SI is an amazing experience for teachers who are willing to put their own thinking aside, be humbled by the brilliant people who are in the room, and to grow as a person and teacher, see things in a different way. I feel very…

Good Book

I forgot the book, but this book is amazing.
If you are looking to push yourself as a poet, this book, The Poet's Companion, is as close as you cna get to taking a creative writing poetry class.
If you are looking for some great creative writing/poetry exercises, this is a fabulous book. There are lots of adult prompts, but some that are great for kids: the one about building similes and crafting images are amazing, and I've done that with 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders.… Continue

Daily Log: Tamasag

Tamasag: a myriad of events strewn from choreography, tears, a honey roasted penis, and beautifully written tragedies.

The early morning began with Cam as a human sign out front so people didn’t miss the turn, but also where there was cell reception. Inside, Kayla reenacted the Billie Jean dance, and people wanted to observe a moment of silence for the passing of Michael Jackson. Some people shared that Justin Timberlake should play Michael Jackson if they make a movie of his life: the two do s… Continue

Your Side of the Street

What's going on over there?
We started poetry over here, using the poem I Remember by Edward Montez, and wrote about memories we remembered, even had a little Beatles music as background sound.
Jack came over, had us define a poet, poetry, and taught us how to look at things differently: through his and each others. We looked at the poem Flames by Billy Collins, the one where Smokey the Bear sets fire to the woods, showing us how it is really done, and we wrote out own poems where characters emb… Continue

Student Connections to History

Rachel Wood was in this morning, delivering her demo to us, allowing us to assume the roles of sometimes nameless and faceless people of history. We wrote in different genres, evaluated texts and well as ourselves (our fictional roles for the characters we assumed) and were all eager to share.
This demo was a relief to me. I will be teaching Social Studies/Geography for the first time in two and a half years, am not thrilled by the text book or our regions: it's boring. But now, I have an idea f… Continue

Things went great, it was a fun year and right now I'm at debate nationals in Alabama. The people who told me it would be miserable here are completely wrong; it is beautiful and we're having a great time!

My year at Skyline was AMAZING! I love it there :) Otherwise, things are going well! Just doing the wedding planning now that I have time...only about a month left (gulp!)....jk. So how was your year? How's WP going this summer? My school's paying for me to go to the TIE conference in Copper in a couple weeks...so I am excited to see what I learn regarding all kinds of technology :) I also hope to get some writing done (for myself)...so we'll see :) Any other plans for the summer? Hope all is well!!!

I feel like my summer hasn't started since I've been in required trainings for the past week and a half (3 more days to go). But given the weather, maybe that's not a bad thing. ;-) We really need to get together and catch up.
